“The most dangerous kind of waste is the waste we do not recognize.” — Shigeo Shingo
Lean is more—much more—than a sequence of kaizen events.
To create and sustain the lean enterprise, there must be an integrated and focused plan with goals in key areas such as growth, quality, and organization development. When company executives have directly participated in planning, they will more likely have a personal commitment and buy-in going forward.
Strategic deployment planning takes the output of a SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threats) assessment, and, working with the executive leadership, creates goals to address the findings and a plan detailing the initiatives required to accomplish the goals.
For small and medium companies the strategic deployment plan (SDP) is at the total company level. For large companies the SDP is for the business unit level.
What differentiates SDP from a traditionalplanning process?
Speed focus
Implementation
Ownership
Dedicated resource
Catch ball process
